Privacy policy
Last updated: 11 October 2026 (version 3)
Six Shores is designed to use as little of your data as possible. This page explains what the game and this website use, why, and for how long. “We” means the Six Shores team.
The short version
- No accounts, no passwords, no email sign-up.
- No ads and no advertising tracking, and we never sell data.
- Anonymous usage statistics only if you tap Allow, on this website, in the browser game and in the apps. You can withdraw at any time.
- Online games send your nickname and your moves to our server, and that information is discarded when the game ends.
What stays on your device
The game saves your settings (such as your nickname, preferred colour, sound and display choices) on your device, in your browser’s local storage or the app’s own storage. While you are in an online game it also saves a small “resume ticket” (the room code, your seat and a reconnection token) so you can get back into the game after a reload or a dropped connection. This information stays on your device. You can delete it by clearing the site’s data in your browser settings or by uninstalling the app. Games against bots on your device are played entirely on that device. Your analytics choice is stored the same way (see Analytics).
What we receive in online games
When you host or join an online room, the game sends our server your nickname, your chosen colour and the moves you make, so they can be shared with the other players in that room. Other players in the room see your nickname and your moves. Rooms are kept only in the server’s memory: they are discarded when the game ends or the server restarts, and we do not keep game histories. Our server runs on Amazon Web Services (AWS) in Mumbai, India.
Server logs
This website and the browser game at play.sixshores.com are delivered by Cloudflare, which processes your IP address and the details of each request to serve and protect them; see Cloudflare’s privacy policy. Our game server (api.sixshores.com), which the browser game and the apps use for online rooms, keeps standard access logs: your IP address, the date and time, the address requested and your browser’s or app’s user agent. We use them only to keep the service running and secure, for example to investigate errors or abuse. They are deleted automatically after about two weeks.
Analytics (only if you allow it)
This website, the browser game at play.sixshores.com and the iPhone, iPad and Android apps can collect anonymous usage statistics that help us improve the game. It is off until you choose. A small banner asks “Help improve Six Shores by sharing anonymous usage statistics?”, with two equal choices, No thanks and Allow. Until you tap Allow, the analytics script is not loaded at all: no analytics cookies are set and nothing is sent to the analytics provider. If you tap No thanks, nothing is sent and we do not ask again for 12 months, unless this policy changes. This choice covers analytics only; the fonts on sixshores.com come from Google Fonts whatever you choose (see Fonts on this website).
What is collected if you allow it: the pages and game screens you view, game events (a game started or finished, with the mode, number of players and bots, bot level, map type, turn timer, result, number of turns and a rough duration range; hosting or joining a room; opening a rules chapter; the name of a setting you changed), your device and browser type, screen size and language, and your approximate location (country and city), which the provider works out from your IP address and does not store. We never send your nickname, seat keys or anything you type, and we do not use analytics to identify you, for advertising or to follow you across other sites.
Cookies and storage: with your consent, the analytics provider sets first-party cookies holding a random identifier for your browser, for up to 13 months (see below). We also keep your choice itself, with the date and the version of this policy, in your browser’s local storage and in a cookie named sixshores_consent shared by sixshores.com and play.sixshores.com, so you are asked once for both; it lasts 12 months. Advertising features, cross-device signals and ad personalisation are turned off, and the advertising consent signals are always set to denied.
Legal basis: your consent (Article 6(1)(a) of the GDPR, and the ePrivacy rules on cookies). Giving it is optional and the game works the same either way.
Retention: the provider keeps event data for 2 months, then deletes it. We only look at totals and trends.
Withdrawing consent: as easy as giving it. On this website, use Privacy choices (also at the bottom of every page); in the browser game, turn off Settings → Game → Analytics. We then stop sending data straight away and delete the analytics cookies from your browser. Withdrawing does not affect data sent before.
In the iPhone, iPad and Android apps
The apps ask the same question once, on the home screen and never during a game, with the same two equal choices. Until you tap Allow, analytics collection in the app is switched off and nothing is sent. If you allow it, the app sends the same screen names and game events as the browser game, together with a random app-instance identifier that the analytics software creates on your device (instead of a cookie), the app version, your device model, operating system version and language, and your approximate location worked out from your IP address. The apps do not use the advertising identifier (IDFA on iPhone and iPad, the advertising ID on Android) and do not track you across other companies’ apps or websites, so they never ask for tracking permission. To withdraw, turn off Settings → Game → Analytics: collection stops straight away. Below it, Delete analytics data clears the analytics data stored on your device and replaces the app-instance identifier with a new one.
Analytics provider
We use Google Analytics, and in the iPhone, iPad and Android apps Google Analytics for Firebase, provided by Google Ireland Limited (for users in the EEA and the UK) and Google LLC. Google processes this data on our behalf under its data processing terms. Its cookies are named _ga and _ga_…. Data may be transferred to the United States; Google LLC is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework (and its UK and Swiss extensions), and the transfers are also covered by the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses. You can block Google Analytics on every site with Google’s opt-out browser add-on, and read how Google uses data from sites that use its services. If we change provider, we will update this section and the policy version, and ask for your consent again.
Fonts on this website
This website (sixshores.com) loads its fonts from Google Fonts. When your browser downloads them, Google receives your IP address and the usual browser details. See Google’s privacy policy. The game at play.sixshores.com serves its fonts itself.
Children
Six Shores is a family-friendly game, but online play is not aimed at children under 13. If you are under 13, please play online only with a parent’s or guardian’s permission, and do not use your real name as your nickname. If you believe a child has shared personal information with us, contact us and we will delete it.
Analytics is off unless someone taps Allow, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you are under 16, please ask a parent or guardian before allowing analytics, or leave it off.
Your choices and rights
You can play without ever going online, use any nickname you like, reject or withdraw analytics, and clear the game’s data from your device at any time. Because rooms are not stored and analytics are anonymous, we usually hold nothing that identifies you beyond the short-lived server logs.
You have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to or restrict its use, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time. To use any of these rights, email contact@sixshores.com. For analytics data, include the value of your _ga cookie if you can, since that random identifier is the only way to find your data; in the apps we cannot see the app-instance identifier, so use Delete analytics data in Settings instead. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Changes
If the game starts to use data differently, we will update this page, its date and version before the change takes effect. When a change affects analytics, we ask for your consent again.
